Tampnet and Aegex Join Forces to Show Offshore Connectivity Solutions at OilComm 2019

Houston, Tex., USA (October 3, 2019) – Tampnet, which operates the largest offshore high-capacity network in the world, invited Aegex to co-exhibit at OilComm 2019 to show how their narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) enables Aegex NexVu sensors and aegex10 Intrinsically Safe Tablets. NB-IoT allows Aegex devices to communicate in real-time, even in the most remote locations, like offshore oil and gas platforms.

At OilComm 2019, the companies exhibited their joint solution, which uses NB-IoT networks that require little power, are cost-effective, and connect sensors directly to base stations rather than relying on gateways.

The day before OilComm, Aegex CEO Thomas P. Ventulett spoke at a private event hosted by Tampnet. “With Tampnet providing real-time connectivity for our NexVu IoT sensors and aegex10 intrinsically Safe Tablets, offshore operators will have better access to their data than ever before,” he said.

The Tampnet narrowband network provides real-time connectivity for Aegex tablets, which are purpose-built intrinsically safe for potentially combustible Class I Division 1 or ATEX/IECEx Zone 1 environments. The Windows 10 tablets are lightweight but ruggedized for offshore environments and can keep teams cloud-connected for full day shifts.

Tampnet also connects Aegex’s NexVu IoT Solution, an intrinsically safe modular sensing array that collects ambient data in critical operations, including offshore oil and gas. More than 40 sensor nodes can be mixed and matched in some 60,000 permutations to monitor conditions of choice, including gases, temperature, pressure, vibration, etc., which, together, could amount to significant events in combustible hazardous areas. Monitoring those contextual factors can give organizations better insight into process safety and asset integrity and help plan for predictive maintenance efforts to improve efficiency and productivity. Battery-powered and highly mobile, NexVu is a versatile means of better understanding conditions surrounding offshore oil and gas or other hazardous area operations.
