Aegex Tablets Gain ATEX and IECEx Zone 1 Certification London, UK (Dec. 8, 2015) – The world’s first intrinsically safe, Windows 10, Intel-based tablet, developed by Aegex Technologies LLC, has gained certification for use in hazardous locations in Europe and multiple international regions, including the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. The Aegex10 industrial tablets are the first to bring Windows 10 capabilities into industries that operate highly explosive environments, including the oil and gas, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors. Unlike typical retail tablets and other communications devices, Aegex’s 10.1-inch tablets are purpose-built for use in explosive environments and are certified intrinsically safe, or incapable of igniting an explosion. They are now certified for ATEX and IECEx Zone 1 hazardous locations, where high concentrations of flammable gases, vapors or dusts are likely to occur in normal operation. Concurrent with the ATEX certification, the Aegex10 has also been certified for use in industrial locations that are governed by IECEx 60079-11 for intrinsic safety. These approvals establish Aegex as the first company to achieve dual intrinsic safety certifications on a Windows 10 tablet intended for enterprise applications. “Our ATEX and IECEx Zone 1 certified solutions will enable our customers to fully engage in cloud-based IoT strategies in hazardous environments across Europe, the Middle East and other regions,” said Kevin Smith, Director Strategic Alliances for Aegex. “Introducing Windows 10 capabilities will evolutionize HazLoc operations and the industries that operate them.” Aegex10 Intrinsically Safe tablets transform a manufacturing facility into an Industry 4.0 Smart Factory by synchronizing with an organization’s Internet of Things and providing users with the capability to record and transmit real-time data from within the most hazardous zones of their operations, thus enhancing productivity while lowering risk. With a uniform platform and Intel architecture, the devices are customisable for any team member in a HazLoc operation, from personnel in explosive zones to their managers who are off-site. In addition to running enterprise programs such as Microsoft Office and Outlook, customers can select task-specific applications and accessories from the Aegex portfolio to tailor the tablets for their particular workforce needs. Aegex tablets are also being tested for Class I Division 1 areas of hazardous locations in the United States and Canada. All equipment intended for use in explosive atmospheres must comply with the ATEX Directive in order to be sold into the European Union. Also known as European Directive 94/9/EC, ATEX deems products to be safe from explosion by electrical and non-electrical ignition sources and harmonizes compliance procedures for trade throughout Europe. For other global regions, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) publishes international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies.
