ATLANTA, GA—(Marketwired - August 04, 2015) - Aegex Technologies, LLC has developed an intrinsically safe tablet that will run Windows 10 and will be universally certified for hazardous location environments. Implementing the latest Windows operating system, which launched July 29, 2015, Aegex’s industrial tablet will be the first of its kind to run Windows 10 and also be certified ATEX Zone 1, IECEx Zone1 and Class I Division 1 for global use in the world’s most explosive environments. Zone 1 and C1D1 are European/international and U.S. certifications, respectfully, that guarantee a device to be intrinsically safe, or incapable of producing a spark sufficient to ignite an explosion. Such certifications are required for devices used in hazardous locations, where high concentrations of flammable gases, vapors or dusts are present. Aegex expects its devices to gain all certifications by fourth quarter 2015. “Being a Microsoft partner allows Aegex to offer Windows 10 to its customers who represent a very specific niche—hazardous locations—where traditional mobile devices that run consumer applications cannot be used because they would explode,” said Kevin Smith, Aegex’s manager of business development and applications. “Now hazardous location personnel can take advantage of all that the new Windows OS has to offer for enhanced collaboration throughout an operation, even when they are in explosive environments.” The 10.1-inch Aegex 10 Intrinsically Safe tablet is customizable for use by any team member in a hazardous location operation, from personnel in the most explosive zones to their managers who are off-site. In addition to running enterprise programs such as Microsoft Office and Outlook, customers can select task-specific applications from the Aegex portfolio to tailor the tablet for their particular workforce needs. Such apps include Mobile Device Management, Emergency Response, Fleet/Personnel Management and Maintenance Monitoring, among others. Adding accessories, like barcode scanners, RFID readers and thermal imagers to the tablet can provide further customization. The Aegex 10 Intrinsically Safe tablet is part of a uniform platform of Aegex devices that can be synchronized to work with other Aegex products, including the Aegex 10 Enterprise Class tablet. Together, these devices form an operation-wide mobile communications solution for workforces in hazardous locations. About Aegex Technologies, LLC Aegex is a global mobile technology provider specializing in intrinsically safe mobility solutions for hazardous locations in the oil and gas, petrochemical, public safety and utilities markets.
